Notes

Texas, Gonzales County, School Records are available online, click here.

Microfilm of original at the Gonzales County courthouse in Gonzales, Texas.

Each school district was assigned a number when it was created. This number was changed as larger districts came into being and assimalated the smaller districts. This number is found on the census and is sometimes the only way to determine what school the student attended. This history should be useful in determining where children attended and a more exact location of their residence. It will also aid in research as which group of census year and school to focus on.

Some information is not readable.

The children are listed alphabetically within their school and are grouped as whites, Mexican, and colored. They are most generally grouped County, which is all rural schools outside of Gonzales, ISD, which is Gonzales, and later Nixon, and Waelder schools are separated from the county records. The information given is surname, given name, age, and gender.
