Hans Adam Summer was born about 1716 in Germany. He married Anna Maria Josten in 1742 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. From there they immigrated to America. They settled in Dutch Fork, South Carolina. They had six sons and one daughter. All of their sons served in the American Revolution. Hans died in 1796 in Newberry County, South Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived in South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi and elsewhere.
