Franz Bitterman (1853-1893) was born in Austria, and died in Durand, Wisconsin. He was the son of Joseph and Rosella Targh Bitterman. He married in Austria ca. 1875 Thekla Preissel (1855-1937). She was the daughter of Leopold and Josephine Hoffmann Preissel. They were parents of eight children, two oldest were born in Austria and the rest in Durand.
