D. Zenón de Somodevilla, Marqúes de la Ensenada, llevó a cabo entre 1750 y 1754, su Catastro, una estadística de la riqueza y de la población, así secular como eclesiástica de las 22 provincias de la Corona de Castilla.

Cuando estos registros fueron creados Campo de Criptana estaba en la provincia de La Mancha. Hoy está en la provincia de Ciudad Real.
