Samuel Bowen (ca. 1755-1822) lived in the Monongahela Valley in Virginia and Pennsylvania in the late 1700s. He married Sarah Davies, daughter of Joseph Davies of Monongalia County, [West] Virginia. They had eight children. He died in Springhill Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. His grandson, Zadok Cramer Bowen (1818-1888), was born at Morgantown, West Virginia, the son of Absalom Bowen (1779-1849). His family migrated to Thorntown, Boone County, Indiana, ca. 1830. He married Sarah Slocum (1829-1866) in 1852 in Boone County. They had six children, 1853-1866. The family migrated to Douglas County, Kansas, in 1855. Five of the children and their mother died there in 1866-1867. He married 2) Minerva Jane Rankin Hale (1837-1922), a widow with one child in 1869. They had two children, 1870-1876. He died at Richland, Kansas. Descendants listed lived in Kansas, Iowa, Texas, and elsewhere.
