Sarah Florence West was born 14 Oct. 1884 at "Marlbank", Prince George County, Virginia, the daughter of Othello Jesse West (1853-1915) and Virginia Newcomb West (1855-1944). She married Hugh Smith Watson in 1906. They lived in Newport News, Virginia and had a son and two daughters. Hugh Smith Watson was born 29 November 1871 in Tarboro, North Carolina, a son of Robert Anderson Watson and Georgianna Smith Watson. He died 5 Nov. 1925 in Newport News.

Contains lineage papers for Florence West Watson, Colonial Dames of America, State of Virginia, claiming eligibility through Thomas Warren (West line), Stephen Hopkins (Newcomb line) and others in the Newcomb line; newsclippings, with obituaries, about members of the Watson and West families; application for membership in the Nationary Society of United States Daughters of 1812, by Virginia Newcomb West, claiming eligibility through Elisha Newcomb; application for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution by Florence West Watson, claiming eligibility through Captain William Vaughan; and other family papers.
