Notes

Microfilm of original records in The National Archives, Washington, District of Columbia.

This microfilm publication contains "...an alphabetical card index to the compiled service records of volunteer soldiers who participated in the quelling of the Philippine Insurrection. Each index card gives the name of a soldier, his rank, and the unit or units in which he served. Some cards also refer to miscellaneous personal papers. There are crossreferences to names that appeared in the records under various spellings"--Introd.

"The compiled service records to which the index applies consist of a jacket-envelope for each soldier, labeled with his name and containing (1) card abstracts of entries relating to the soldier as found primarily in original muster rolls and returns, but occasionally in other records such as pay vouchers, and (2) the originals of any papers relating solely to the particular soldier"--Introd.

An example of material contained in the service packets is filmed at the beginning of the first reel.

"There are no microfilmed compiled service records for volunteer soldiers who served during the Philippine Insurrection"--Military Service Records, p. 166.

The library has other records that contain information relating to soldiers who served during the Philippine Insurrection. Information concerning soldiers who served in the Regular Army is recorded in registers of enlistments in the U.S. Army, 1789-1914 (M233). See Author/Title catalog: United States. Army. Registers of enlistments in the United States Army, 1798-1914.

About this record

This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.

The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.

Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.

Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
