Maria Stebbins was a daughter of Simon Stebbins (b.1764) of New York, and a granddaughter of Theophilis Stebbins of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Her mother was Eunice Whitlock, eldest daughter of Robert and Susan Whitlock of Ridgefield, Connecticut. "Her heirs at law are the descendants of fourteen uncles and aunts, all of whom were dead at time of her decease ..." living in New England, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, California and elsewhere.
