"The first Southern DuRant family was in North Carolina but by 1790 most of the N.C. family had moved from N.C. In 1755, a French-Canadina immigrated came to S.C. and these were DuRand/Durand. These settled along the edge of Williamsburg and Georgetown Counties and on Pee Dee and Waccamaw Rivers. Some of these Durands took the Spelling DuRant. So far this work has not solved the problem of Mrs. Henry Hill DuRant who come from Bethel Durant family."
