"The Irish Reproductive Loan Fund was a micro credit scheme set up in 1824 to provide small loans to the 'industrious poor'. Local associations and committees administered the scheme, most often from a small town in a rural area, and county committees oversaw their work. The records of the local associations and county committees are in the The National Archives record series (PRO) T91. They cover the years 1824 to 1846 for counties Cork, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary in Munster, and Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo in Connacht. As well as the notes of security for the loans, there are loan ledgers, repayment books and defaulters' books. The minimum information supplied is address and occupation, but much additional detail is often given in the local association records, including notes on health, family circumstances and emigration. The local records generally run from the late 1830s to the mid-1840s and are available for the following associations: Roscommon: Aughnasurn, Ballinlough, Ballymoe, Clonfinlough, Elphin, Mosshill, Rockville, Tybohan Sligo: Templehouse Mayo: Ballina or Carramore, Ballindine, Ballinrobe, Castlebar, Claremorris, Kilmore, Swineford Galway: Ahascragh, Ballygar, Castle Hackett, Clifden, Kilconickny, Outerard, Galway Town Cork: Baltimore, Castletown, Castle Townsend, Cloyne, Creagh, Kilmoe and Crookhaven, Schull Tipperary: Tipperary Town" -- The National Archives

About this record

This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.

The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.

Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.

Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
