"On the three rolls of this microfilm publication, M1932, are reproduced the schedules of the 1930 census of merchant seamen. These records are part of the Records of Bureau of the Census, Record Group (RG) 29. In addition, correspondence and subject files relating to the taking of this census have also been reproduced from RG 29 and from RG 41, Records of the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation. ... During the fifteenth census of the United States taken in 1930, the Bureau of the Census ... for the first time made special effort to ensure that merchant seamen serving on U.S.-flag merchant vessels were properly enumerated. ...." -- Intro.
Includes name of vessel, owner and address, what port, name of seaman, state or country of birth, occupation, whether a veteran and of what war, and address of next of kin.
