Chiefly descendants of Archibald McKaughan. Archibald McKaughan was born ca. 1715 in County Antrim, Ireland. He married Rebecca Boyd, ca. 1833. They had four children. The two boys were born in Ireland, and immigrated to America with their parents in 1747. The family settled in Pennsylvania, where two daughters were born. Archibald McKaughan (b. 1735) and Hugh McKaughan (1743-after 1820) were both soldiers in the Revolutionary War and married in Pennsylvania. They, with their families and sisters, migrated to Sullivan County, Tennessee, ca. 1793. The parents probably died in Pennsylvania. Descendants listed lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas, Indiana, and throughout the United States. Descendants spell their name McKaughan, McGahan, McCoin and other variant spellings.
