Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Hackett (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England and Ireland, with special focus on those from County Leitrim, Ireland. The surname was originally Guckian (and variant spellings), but was Anglicized to Hackett in the 19th century. Ancestors include (but are not limited to) James Henry Hackett (James Guckian) and Catherine Hanley. James (1816-1882) immigrated from Ireland to New York in 1849. Others were Samuel Hackett who founded Hackettstown, New Jersey, and his son Jacob (b. 1772). In the 1600's, Hacketts (Guckians) settled in Barbados, and in Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia. In the 1700's, some settled in Arkansas, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Vermont. During the 1800's, some migrated to Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec (Canada), and to Alabama, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. Later descendants and relatives also lived in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and elsewhere.
