Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the McClanahan (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Northern Ireland and Scotland. Some focus is on (but not limited to) Thomas, James, and John McClanahan, who may be related. Thomas settled in Richmond County, Virginia, by 1680. His family moved to Fauquier and Culpepper Counties of Kentucky. James lived in Chester County, Pennsylvania ca. 1740. His family later moved into Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee. John's family settled in Lunnenburg County, Virginia, and later went to the southern Shenandoah Valley near Roanoke, Virginia, and then into Tennessee. In the 1700s, some McClanahan families settled in Kentucky, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. During the 1800s, some moved to Canada, and to Alabama, Arkanasas, California, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Later descendants also lived in Ontario and Newfoundland (Canada), Africa, Australia, Russia, and in Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Washington, Wyoming, and elsewhere. Some have African American bloodlines.
