Uwagi

The commissioner of the revenue registered births and deaths for the county and then turned his books over to the clerk of the County Court. The clerk made abstracts to send to the state auditor and would also preserve the books in his office.

The register of deaths gives the name of the deceased, race (if before 1864 and "colored", gives whether free or slave), name of slave owner (before 1864), sex, date and place of death, cause of death, age, parents' names, birthplace, occupation, spouse's name if married, and sources of information. Information is not always complete. The years 1863 may be missing.

The register of births gives child's name, date and place of birth, race (if before 1864 and "colored", gives whether free or slave), sex, if born alive or dead, father's name (if before 1864, gives name of slave owner), father's occupation, residence, mother's name, how many children born at the birth, any birth defects, and sources of information. Information is not always complete. The years 1863 may be missing.

Index to births, marriages, deaths, 1853-1912, is divided into three sections. Index to register of births, 1853-1896, gives name of child, date of birth and page number. Index to register of marriages, 1853-1912 (indexes only no. 3), gives name of male or female and page number. Index to register of deaths, 1853-1870, gives name of deceased, date of death, and page number. Dates are not always filled in.
