Robert Sward and Gloria Sward Memorial service for Robert Victor Sward, 80, and Gloria Jane (Van Alstine) Sward, 74, Grand Rapids, will take place today (Friday, May 16), 2 p.m., at the Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Robert Affeldt will officiate. Robert Sward died May 5. Gloria Sward died Dec. 25, 2003 in Phoenix, Ariz. Robert Sward was born in Anoka May 22, 1927 to Victor and Jessie Sward in Anoka. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Gloria Sward was born in Anoka Feb. 10, 1929 to Hollis and Viola Van Alstine. Robert was employed as a union car mechanic, while. Gloria worked as a dental assistant in Anoka. Robert was a life member of the V.F.W. and Gloria was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. They are survived by a daughter, Robin (Dale) Engstrand of Grand Rapids; granddaughter, Tanya (Tony) Kramer of Mound; grandson, Nathan (Libby) Albrecht of Grand Rapids; and great granddaughters, Adeline and Ella Albrecht of Grand Rapids. In addition, Gloria is survived by her sister, Nancy (Robert) Dehn of Ramsey; brother, Ellis (Beverly) Van Alstine of Naples, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents. Inurnment will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements are by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.
