OBITUARY, City Clerk's Office, April 1898: In Sioux City, Iowa, L.S. Soloman of Morningside, died of kidney disease. The deceased man was a veteran of the Mexican War. He was in the Civil War also, having been a member of the 4th Iowa Infantry. He was a member of the GAR Post connected with the Sidney Fuller Post #458 of Oto, Iowa. From records in the V.A, office in Sioux City: L.S. Soloman, 84, a 5th Corporal in the U.S. Army in the Civil war, was born in 1814 in Greencastle, Indiana, and passed away in Sioux City on April 23, 1898. He is buried in the Correctionville Cemetery, in the G.A.R. block, lot 62, grave 5. He served in the Army from July 6, 1861, until July 24, 1865, when he was mustered out in Louisville, Kentucky. He had been discharged for a disability in September 1862, but re-enlisted January 25, 1864. He married Mary S. Case on May 23, 1845, and they had 8 children: Lydia M. Solomon, James Butler Solomon, Joseph Solomon, Abashaba Ann Solomon, Miles S. Solomon, Benjamin Wm. Solomon, Sarah Elizabeth Solomon, and Lewis Separate Solomon. Lewis' first wife, Mary S. Case, was born Jan. 18, 1824, and died Jan. 22, 1888. He married Lucy Lennings in 1892. His 2nd wife was Lucy A. Leming.
