My Gramma’s Path March 3, 2010 By Peggy L. Thornton Born cute as a babe, Mom Thaisa strong. Taught how to manage, As life went along. Immaculate and sharp, This leader she’d win. Her methods and ways, Were neat at a pin. Quite she was, But ambitious and true. She said if something bothered you, Just go to work. She met a young man. Her New Love Cute He was so nice. We married right. And nestled in. To Old Cove Fort, We did there live. My first child, Was on the way. Ancestors bore, A genetic glitch, So milk leg I got, It made me so sick. The Mormon women, Did me Loyalty serve. As I lie dying, They fed me broth. Clothes they would wash, But on bed did throw, Also on chairs, And off they’d go. Not too neat, In household chores, But those women I loved, As through life I go. Sometimes with friends, Or family, I would play, And feeling free. But tummy bumped, It was so sore, I went to Dr Evans, And at 8 months, Child I bore. She did not live, They took her away. It was so tough, That long cold, hard day! We named her Lela Rae Kesler, Important she was. She came to this earth, For a special cause. To Fillmore we went, To try and live there. To Flowell also, I sat by a flowing well. Not to be A home for me, Homesick I was, And missed my baby. So to Deer Lodge we moved, And made a home, Then moved again, To by sister be. St .Anthony was cool, A new child I would have. She was full term, To Deer Lodge she was born. All my life , I stayed in this place. My dear husband, Came to my side. Long hard work, He had to do. Gone so much, We then were through. So another dear man, Sensitive to me, Came and swept me off, My swollen feet. He two children had, From his dear deceased wife, I raised them like my own, And watched life pass. I called my baby Judy, She was a charm. Then I had her sister Peggy Ann, And like twins they grew. Bill came along, My pride and joy. We were so very happy, But Peggy Ann was ill. One day the children Over suck fought, Dad Scott to Peggy Ann gave it, Cause his heart worried for her was. Next morn Peggy Ann on Grammas lap, Said; I don’t feel good. Last breath she took. Step daughter Marion, Up stairs screaming did go. Peggy is dead! Hysterically announced. It work her sister Judy, From deepest sleep. Judy went down, To see Peggy Ann. Kissed her on forhead cold, As Peggy Ann lay there. It was all over. Chicken soup was made, But no one could eat. In mourning they were. Next morning Gramma Mary to funeral home went. She by he new love did sit. Bill and Judy inbetween, Watching the service to begin. Peggy Ann in pink lined casket lay. Pinkish purple curtain draped there. Service finished Song began. Brahms Lullabye But singer choked up. Casket closed. So finally cold, Grammas heart burst, Judy screamed. Minister came on bended knee, To comfort Judy as 10 she was. Bill was five and together they hands held. Walked throught the weed patch, To home where friends and family met. Judy couldn’t eat, But dream she had, Peggy Ann came to play with dolls, And said I have to go now and did. Gramma Mary and Dad Scott went on. And tried to deal with grief, But their hearts did separate and leave. Hard work was now upon them. New love Gramma Mary had. This her best of all. Two children Little girls, So fun and cute, Good care all their lives did have. These parents had a 25 yr anniversary And still happiness had. Her true love passed on, When he was old. Another companion did come her way. Aging they did, House trailer they had. Then due to illness, Nursing home Gramma Mary had. She became blind, But her heart Was made of gold. This grand lady, Who had it hard, Has earned Heavens treasures, For being so bold. Lela is there, She’’ll millenium rise, Though her spirit full grown, As infant she’ll grow, And raised from that age, To womanhood full, By Gramma Mary, And family full. Peggy Ann is there, Though spirit full grown, Her 8 year old body, Will Millenium rise, And be raised by Gramma Mary, And family full. Pat and Marion are there, A full life here they gave, Helpful they were, And so very very brave. Judy is there, So Noble and Great, She taught us the Gospel, Together we all can be again.
