Land petitions, 1783-1857

The land petitions held at the Provincial Archives fall under record group 10 - Records of the Department of Natural Resources ; RS108, Land Petitions.

In 1978 a reorganization program of the five old series of the Crown Land Petitions was begun. An additional 15,000 petitions were located and added to the existing five series of approximately 40,000 petitions. At the end of the year, aproximately 9,000 petitions had been organized into a single series and an index of over 20,000 name cards prepared. This set was called Series I and is found in these films. Series II is forthcoming and contains the later years, organized by chronological year and control number as assigned by the Department of Natural Resources.
