The abbreviations used in the 'record & location' column are as follows: 'CC' refers to records created and housed by the county clerk's office, 'JP' refers to records created by the Justice of the Peace and housed by the county clerk's office, 'CM' refers to records created and housed by the city of Marshall in the city hall, 'PB' refers to Probate Court Record of Births, Not Previously Registered, 'BR' when used with the location initials CC refers to the birth record series, 'BR' when used with the location initials JP refers to a volume found in the county clerk's office called Birth and Death Record 1A, 'BD' or 'B&DR' refers to the Birth and Death Record 1, 'RB' refers to the Registers of Birth, 'VSB' refers to the Vital Statistics Bureau records and may be housed at City Hall in Marshall as part of the Register of Births series, 'B' or 'Births' refers to a birth record housed in the City Hall of Marshall and could be part of the Register of Births series, 'Cert.' refers to an old indexing system of filing births by a certificate number (to find the names now, one must first look in the Current Birth Index to find name and new certificate number and then refer to the Current Birth Certificate files), when the 'record' column contains a volume and page number this refers to the Probate Court Record of Births Not.

Previously Registered, 'CO' and a number in the file number column or no marking in the record column or the file number preceded or followed by 'CO' refers to the Court Ordered Delayed Certificates of Birth files, 'DEL' and a number in the file number column or if the record column is blank and the file number is preceded or followed by the letters 'DEL' refers to the Delayed Certificates of Birth, if no location or record initials are found and only a number in the certificate number column then this birth is recorded at the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Austin, Texas.
