In a thesis on the "Snow Hill Cloister" where Benjamin resided, Charles Treher stated, "In 1835, a young man named Benjamin Sprecht came to Snow Hill and Joined the society. Sprecht was born in 1812 near Stoystown at the top of the Alleghenies. He was a devout person and composed a hymn entitled 'Ich bin das brod des lebens, spricht Christian unser.' Having gained favor, he was appointed pastor in 1842. His term was short, for he died in 1843 at the age of thirty-one and was buried in the cloister cemetery."
