School Official and Wife Observe 50th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. James D. Rutledge of 157 Hammer Avenue were guests of honor at a family dinner on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary last evening at the Capital Hotel.

Mr. Rutledge, who has conducted a wholesale produce business for many years, is perhaps best known for his continued interest in school affairs. He has been a member of the Johnstown School Board for 30 years. He has held the office of president of the board since 1915. One of his tasks in this connection for many years has been the presentation of diplomas to both junior and senior high school graduates.

Mrs. Rutledge is the former Frances Williams, daughter of John and Amelia Williams. Mr. Rutledge's parents were George and Henrietta Rutledge.

After their marriage September 2, 1891, in the parsonage of the Franklin Street Methodist Episcopal Church, with Rev. Dr. H. L. Chapman officiating, they established residence on Market Street.

Eighteen years later they moved to their present home at 157 Hammer Avenue. They are now members of the First Presbyterian Church.

All four children attended the family dinner last night. They are George C. Rutledge of 198 Worth Street, president of the Johnstown Bank and Trust Co.; James R. Rutledge of 219 Wroth Street, Frances, wife of James W. Bailey of 145 Plainfield Avenue, and Miss Alice Rutledge, Cochran teacher. Six grandchildren, also were present - Ann Rutledge, a junior at Hood College; Peggy Rutledge, James H. Rutledge, a sophomore at Juniata College; Robert G. Rutledge, Alice W. Bailey and Frances R. Bailey.

There are six grandchildren: Ann and Peggy Rutledge, daughters of George and Helen (Trimble) Rutledge; James Horten and Robert Gracey Rugledge, sons of Robert and Elda (Horten) Rutledge, and Alice Winifred and Frances Rutledge Bqailey, daughters of James and Frances (Rutledge) Bailey.
