Historical sketch and genealogy of George & Thomas Geer from 1621 to 1856

George Geer (b. ca. 1621) and Thomas Geer (b. 1623), brothers, were born in Devon County, England, perhaps in Hevitree or Shoreham. According to family tradition, they were left ophans at an early age and raised by an uncle who arranged to have them transported to America. They arrived at Boston in 1635. George Geer was one of the early settlers of New London, Connecticut, ca. 1651. He married Sarah Allyn, daughter of Robert Allyn, in 1658. They had eleven children, 1659-1683. He died in 1726. Descendants listed lived in Connecticut, New York, and elsewhere.

The Daniel Brainerd Society newsletter : the family association for all Brainerd-Brainard-Braynard descendants of the original immigrant ancestor Daniel Brainerd of Haddam, English colony of Connecticut - v. 8, no. 4 (winter 1998/1999)

Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Brainerd (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, Ireland, and Scotland. Focus is on descendants of Daniel Brainerd (1641-1715), who left Braintree, England and immigrated to America when he was about eight years old. He lived in Hartford, Connecticut, until 1662, and later established his home at Haddam, Connecticut. In 1664, Daniel married Hannah Spencer, and had eight children: Daniel, James, Joshua, William, Caleb, Elijah, Hezekiah, and Hannah. Many descendants and other Brainerd families remained in Connecticut for several generations. During the 1800s, some Brainerds moved to Quebec (Canada), Haiti, and to California, Colorado, Delaware, the Indian Territory, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington Territory, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Later descendants also lived in British Columbia and Ontario (Canada), Ecuador, Germany, Spain, and in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington D.C., and elsewhere. Includes information about adopted family members, some of whom took on the Brainerd surname. Some had Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and other American Indian bloodlines. Information on births, marriages, deaths were extracted from cemetery inscriptions, census, correspondence, county court records, ledgers, marriage indexes, marriage records, newspaper clippimgs, obituaries, parish registers, probates, published histories, shared research, Soundex, wills, and other sources.

The Barnhills

Robert Gabriell Barnhill was born in 1626 i n Perth, Scotland and married Janett Moore. His grandson, Robert Barnhill Sr. (1703-ca. 1761) was born in Antrim County, Ireland and died in Bucks county, Pennsylvania. Robert's son, William (1735-1808, was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and died in York County, South Carolina. He married Isabella Barr in 1758. Descendants lived in South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, and elsewhere.

Two families of Clarks, vol. 2

Chiefly some ancestors, descendants and relatives of Alexander and Jessie Clark Clark. Alexander Clark (1823-1895) was born at Aberdeen, Scotland, and son of James and Elizabeth Morrice Clark. His family moved to Montrose, Scotland, ca. 1833. He married Jessie/Janet Hutchison Clark, daughter of William and Margaret Chalmers Clark and apparently unrelated, in 1845 at Montrose. They had seven children, 1847-1861. Alexander and Janet Clark died at Montrose. Descendants listed, chiefly descendants of their son, William Chalmers Clark (1857-1943), lived in Scotland, Canda, United States and elsewhere.

Newsletterfor the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Sparks (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and possibly Wales. The surname originally was known as Sparrowhawk. Some allied families came from Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Norway, Russia, Scotland, and Switzerland. Sparks ancestors settled in Barbados and Bermuda or Somers Island (West Indies), Maryland and Virginia during the 1600's. In the 1700's, some settled in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia (Canada), Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Vermont. During the 1800's, some moved to New Brunswick and Ontario (Canada), Brazil, China, Cuba, France, Italy, Mexico, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa Indian Territory, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma Indian Territory, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. Later descendants and relatives also lived in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan (Canada), England, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Panama, Poland, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Wyoming, and elsewhere. Some adoptions, and changed surnames are noted. Many Sparks ancestors died in military service and were buried overseas.
