Records, 1684-1699 (transcript) mentions an Orphans Court in Elizabeth City County and later the County Court.

Elizabeth City County became extinct in 1952, when it was incorporated into independent city of Hampton.

Minute book, 1844-1861; order books, 1731-1747, 1808-1816; and records, 1684-1699 (transcript), are individually indexed. Record Book no. 10, 1721-1723, has an index to the second part only. Wills, etc., 1701-1904, has the index at the end.
