In order to locate the compiled service records of a soldier, the unit in which he served must be known, or located thru the use of an index.
The library has a microfilm of these compiled service records of Confederate soldiers from the state of Virginia. See entry in the Author/Title catalog: United States. Record and Pension Office. The library has a consolidated index on microfilm which duplicates the information contained in this state index. The consolidated or master card index contains the names of all Confederate soldiers found in compiling service records. See entry in the Author/Title catalog: United States.
