The certificate stubs serve as a numerical index by certificate number to the naturalization petitions. In the absence of an alphabetical index card, the petition can be located using the stub which provides the petition number. These cards are arranged in numerical order by certificate number. The certificates were given to the court in blocks. Thus, although there appear to be gaps in the sequence, those "missing" numbers were not given to this court. The holdings of this court are complete. Some cards may appear to be out of date order, but those are replacement certificates and are in correct certificate number order.

The military petitions "contain the petitions for naturalization filed by aliens serving in the Armed forces during World War One, filed after honorable discharge from the service, or as a result of service in an allied army during the war. There are also copies of Overseas military petitions as well as repatriation petitions filed by American citizens who had [temporarily] lost their American citizenship by joining a foreign army prior to the United States entering the war in 1917. For those aliens who served in the military, the residency requirement was reduced to one year instead of five; filing of a Declaration of Intention was waived; and a Certificate of Arrival verifying legal entry to the United States was waived...." -- Introd.
