Henry was a doctor, born into British aristocracy, studied medicine at Guy's Hospital in London, and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in London. He practiced medicine for six years at Michem Surry, but, ignoring the lifestyle of his peers, disgraced himself by falling in love with the gardener's daughter, whom he married aboard ship as they left for America.
