James Stephenson (ca. 1730-1802) was born in the northern part of Ireland of Scottish ancestry. He immigrated to America in the early half of the 1700s and settled near Roanoke, Virginia. He and his wife, Anne Garner, had sixteen children. The family migrated to Augusta County, Virginia, in 1761, and to Monroe County, Virginia, in 1801. Descendants listed lived in West Virginia, Ohio, and elsewhere.
