Mary Charlotte Richards was born in 1857, in Wookey, Somerset, to Edward Griffith Richards and Charlotte Emilie Silliery. She was baptized by her grandfather, Henry Richards, at Horfield, Gloucestershire, on the 15th of October. She is pictured here on the right, with her brother Henry, and her sister Frances.

Her father died of tuberculosis in 1863, aged 36. After this, the family lives briefly in Clifton, Bristol, but after the death of her maternal step grandmother in 1880, the family moved to Charlton Lodge, Dover, which was orignally owned by her grandfather.

Her mother passed away in 1902, and in 1911, she was living at Charlton Lodge with her neice, Helena Thoyts, and three servants, a cook, housemaid, and parlourmaid.

She remained at the address the rest of her life. She passed away in 1925, aged 68. "Writing in Charlton parish magazine for March, the Rector, Rev. C. S. M. Playfair says "Our parish has suffered a great loss in the death of Miss Mary Charlotte Richards. She lived nearly all her life at Charlton Lodge, and took a keen interest in every good work, not only in her own parish, but in the whole town. Never, when it was possible for her to give her personal services, were they refused, and her untiring energy was wonderful, while few people have so many varied interests occupy them as she had. She will be much missed by a multitude of friends."

As you can see that's another family line come to an end. We will have to find a descendant of one of siblings to be able to reunite the family collection.
