Dad said his father, Hans Gundersen Nisja, had one of the largest book stores in what was called Christiania, now Oslo. I understand he lost a large amount of money signing for a friend. Later he contracted TB, and that was the end of their fortune. His mother, Nikolene Nilsdatter, died not too much later. Dad then was sent to live with his Grandmother, who also did not live much longer. I'm not sure if it was his maternal or paternal grandmother.
