In the Family History Department (FamilySearch), there is a great need to speak to God's children in their own languages. The FamilySearch content marketing team is looking for tech-savvy missionaries who can help us send articles for translation in more than 11 languages and publish translations on the FamilySearch blog.

Responsibilities
These missionaries help with a variety of projects. Here are some of the service opportunities that are available:
  • Prepare content for translation using basic HTML skills.
  • Publish translations using a WYSIWYG editor.
  • Take screenshots of the FamilySearch website in multiple languages, and save these images as organized image files.
  • Help work with representatives around the world to understand area needs.
  • Explore publishing language-first content, and help oversee related area initiatives.
  • Participate in weekly devotionals with other family history missionaries.


Qualifications
  • Organization skills and a detail-oriented mindset
  • At least a beginning-level knowledge of HTML or another coding language
  • Computer and phone savvy
  • Willing to help with crucial but repetitive tasks (such as taking and editing screenshots in various languages)

Articles are intended to fulfill the Family History Department's purpose of creating inspiring experiences that help all people discover, gather, and connect to their families—past, present, and future.

Responsibilities
  • Edit articles to ensure that they are simple, inspiring, SEO-optimized, factually accurate, and readable.
  • Help us develop and maintain a friendly, fun, and timely voice in our blog articles. (Our focus audience is often 18–25 years old, especially those who are just starting family history. Even when writing for other age groups or more advanced genealogists, you can help us keep our language simple and familiar.)
  • Ensure that articles match the style guides of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and FamilySearch.
  • Publish articles on an internet platform (WordPress or Brightspot).
  • Help manage and move articles from start to finish. While editing and publishing articles, you may:
    • Work with FamilySearch employees, missionaries, and priesthood leaders to understand topics and needs for articles.
    • Pick writers for articles, and request drafts.
    • Work with FamilySearch engineers, Family History Library experts, and people from other departments to ensure that articles are technically accurate and informed and that they match the appropriate guidelines and goals.
    • Request appropriate approvals for content to be published on a Church channel.


Qualifications
  • Experience with writing or editing for a blog (or similar platform, such as an e-magazine or feature stories for a website)
  • A flexible writing style (Blogs are more casual and tend to have a different style than formal or educational writing.)
  • Education in editing or professional editing experience
  • Good reading and writing skills
  • Basic or intermediate computer skills

Using keyword research tools we provide and train you to use, you will help the FamilySearch Content Marketing Team and Family History Department discover what people are searching for related to family history, family connections, and temple work. You can then help make recommendations for creating content around keywords and help reoptimize existing content to reach God's children all over the world.


Responsibilities
  • Do keyword research as assigned using SEM Rush and Searchlight (FamilySearch will provide access and training to these tools).
  • Advise on the best keywords for each topic based on monthly search volume, user search intent, and more.
  • Help create content strategies and content maps that will help us create truly inspiring experiences about each topic chosen.
  • Assist in finding old, unoptimized, or low-performing content on FamilySearch and reoptimize them to help build their online visibility—making them accessible to all God's children.
  • Help track keywords, website traffic, and other metrics.
  • Help us reach people all over the world by looking for new content topics that are international and relevant and draw them to FamilySearch for personal discovery experiences.


Qualifications
  • Some experience in search engine optimization (SEO) and keyword research or a strong interest in this type of marketing and outreach is very helpful
  • Knowledge of using search engines to seek information of personal interest

You must be willing to learn and perform specific support tasks vital to marketing products and services for FamilySearch (Family History Department) worldwide. The service you provide will help create inspiring experiences that bring joy to all Heavenly Father's children as they discover, gather, and connect to their family. All necessary training and access needed to successfully accomplish assigned responsibilities will be provided remotely by FamilySearch staff.
