New Church-provided equipment for a FamilySearch center

Summary

The Family History Department replaces authorized computers based on budget availability. The Family History Department determines a replacement schedule. Replacement is automatic. Centers do not need to request new equipment.

If you feel the center needs additional computers to fulfill the needs of guests, you can submit a Family History Computer Hardware and Software Order Form. The Family History Department reviews your request and determines if additional computers are needed.

Requirements

The Family History Department only considers a center for replacement computers when the center meets these requirements:

  • Microsoft Intune must be on all current center computers.

Center provides information

When a center is to receive replacement equipment, the Stake Temple and Family History Consultant—Family History center receives an email. The consultant works with the stake technology specialist to provide necessary information:

  • A simple diagram of the center. Scan the diagram, and send it to nasupport@familysearch.org, or fax it to 1-866-690-3811. Here are things to include on the diagram:
    • The basic dimensions of the center
    • Description of staff area, if applicable
    • Location of hardware
    • Location of furniture, such as microfilm cabinets
  • A detailed list of computers, monitors, printers, and other equipment currently in the center. Please include this information:
    • Information about both functioning and nonfunctioning hardware
    • Any special use equipment
    • Network information, such as the number of switches and the firewall model
    • Information about hardware purchased with local funds, if applicable

New equipment information

  • The center receives an email when new computers or printers ship.
  • New computers and printers are sent to either the stake technology specialist or Stake Temple and Family History Consultant—Family History center.
  • Shipment takes up to 3 weeks.
  • To check the status of an order or to check when older computers are scheduled to be replaced, contact FamilySearch Support.
  • The FM group does not set up or remove any components of old computers, monitors, or printers. If equipment is too heavy to lift, or if you need help with setting it up, please contact your local stake technology specialist. If one is not available, please contact local priesthood leadership for assistance.
  • The stake technology specialist should ensure that data is completely removed before the local facilities manager disposes of an old computer.
  • If you need further assistance with setup, please contact FamilySearch Support.
