How do I know when I get an answer on FamilySearch Community?

You can use bookmarks or set notifications to know when you get a response to your posts in FamilySearch Community.

Notifications

Set your notification preferences:

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch Community.
  2. In the top-right, click your photo or avatar.
  3. Click Edit Profile.
  4. On the left, under your name, click Notification Preferences.
  5. For each notification, you can choose to receive an email or a popup notification. Do not check either box if you prefer no notification.
  6. Click Save Preferences

Email notifications come to your inbox for each response. Popup notifications show as a red dot in the top-right over the bell icon. Click the icon to access a link to the discussion.

Bookmarks

You can bookmark your questions and discussions and check back for answers.

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch Community and post your question or discussion item.
  2. To the right of the title of your new post, click the Ribbon icon to bookmark it.
  3. To return to your bookmarks, on the right panel, under Quick Links click My Bookmarks.
  4. Click a discussion or question title to see the latest posts and answers.

Private profile

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch Community.
  2. In the top-right, click your photo or avatar.
  3. Click Edit Profile.
  4. Below the email address field, click the box for Private Profile.

Caution: If you make your profile private, others are not able to send you a private message in Community. If you post a message about a sensitive topic or one that needs help from specialists, the Community moderators are not able to message you with assistance.
