How do I invite people to join an indexing group?

Group administrators can invite others to join an indexing group or subgroup. Invitation-only groups require an invitation directly from the group administrator in order to join.

Note: Church membership records determine ward and stake indexing groups. Church members who participate in indexing are added automatically. Group administrators can invite members of the public to join the ward or stake group as needed to provide help or improve communication among all of the people working together on a project.

Before you start

Obtain the FamilySearch profile of each person you want to invite.

Steps

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.
  2. At the top of the screen, click Get Involved.
  3. Click Indexing.
  4. Scroll down to the Groups section.
  5. Click the name of the group.
  6. Click Options.
  7. Click Manage Members.
  8. Click Invitations
  9. In the To field, enter the profile of each person that you want to invite. Put a comma between each name.
  10. Click Send.

If you do not know profiles

  • Have potential subgroup members find and join the group on the Indexing section of FamilySearch. It will help if you can tell them the name of the group.
  • Send an email to potential subgroup members with a link to the group page. (Copy the URL from the address bar of the browser. It starts with https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/groups/. . . . )
