How do I change the indexing language?

When you index, you can change the language of the Indexing user interface, field names, field helps, and project instructions:

  • User interface. You can change the language for the Indexing user interface. Indexing is available in the same languages as the rest of FamilySearch plus Dutch, Polish, and Swedish.
  • Field names, field helps, and project instructions. By default, these options appear in the project language. You can display them in English instead.

You can also choose the language of the records you index. To see what projects are available, visit our indexing page and click Find a Project. When you search for a batch, you can also filter the list of projects by language.

Steps

  1. To change the language for field names, field helps, and project instructions, do the following:
    1. With a batch open, click Batch in the top menu.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. Click Language.
    4. Under Field Name, select either English or Project Language.
    5. Under Field Help and Project Instructions, select either English or Project Language.
      • Note: the project instructions are in the new language except for the first headline, which remains in English.
  2. To change the language of the user interface, do the following:
    1. Scroll to the bottom of the Indexing page.
    2. Click the globe icon.
    3. Click the language that you want.
