James Lamb was born in 1756 at Perth, Scotland, the son of James and Janet Mason Lamb. He immigrated to American in 1776 and served with Virginia forces during the Revolutionary War. After the war James married Hannah Boone, a relative of Daniel Boone, and settled in Bourbon County, Kentucky. They had ten children, born ca. 1789-1810. The family migrated to Wayne County, Indiana, in 1811. He died in Wayne County in 1841. His grandson, Newton Lamb was born in Wayne County, Indiana, in 1818 the son of William and Frances Gaar Lamb. He married Carolina Evans, daughter of Henry and Harriet Vesey Evans, in 1841 in Wayne County. They migrated to Jefferson County, Iowa, the same year. They had fourteen children, 1842-1867. They family moved to Polk County, Iowa, in 1845. He died in Polk County in 1892. Descendants listed lived in Iowa, Michigan, South Dakota, California, and elsewhere.
