The earliest known ancestor, Robert Brasseur/Brashear (bef. 1600-1665), was a French Huguenot, who was in Isle of Thanet, Kent Co., England ca. 1620; in Virginia ca. 1635; in Maryland in 1658; and died in Nansemond Co., Va. Benjamin Brashear VII (1727-1809), son of Samuel Brashear, Jr. and Elizabeth Brashear (a double cousin), was born in Prince George Co., Md., and died in Russum, Miss. He married Catherine Belt (1730- 1773) ca. 1750. She was the daughter of John Belt of Maryland and his wife, Margaret Queen. Jesse Brashears of Pensacola (b. ca. 1733) was the son of Robert C. Brashears of Guildford Co., N.C. He was probably born at Brashears Meadows in Prince George Co., Maryland. He married Elizabeth Prather, daughter of Philip Prather and Margery Hunt. She was born in Anne Arundel Co., Md. Family members live in Maryland, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina and elsewhere.
