William Henry Wilbanks (1810-1902), a Confederate soldier, was born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina, the son of John Wilbanks (1785-1879) and Martha Smith Wilbanks (1794-1824). His family migrated to Jefferson County, Alabama, ca. 1813 and to Monroe County, Mississippi Territory by 1816 . After his mother's death, his father took the children back to South Carolina to live with an aunt. He married in South Carolina, ca. 1834 and had five children, ca. 1835-1847. After, his first wife's death, he migrated to Cherokee County, Georgia, where he married his second wife, Phoebe Young, in 1852. They had six children, ca. 1856-1870. The family migrated to Wayne County, Tennessee, ca. 1874; and to Searcy County, Arkansas, ca. 1881. Phoebe died in Sulpher Springs Township, Arkansas. William died at the home of a son in east Texas. Most children and grandchildren lived in Texas and Oklahoma.

Ancestors include: William Wilbanks (ca. 1751-1816), a Revolutionary War soldier, of North Carolina and Spartenburg District, South Carolina -- Obadiah Smith (d. ca. 1744) of Henrico County, Virginia -- David Smith, Sr. (b. 1736), a Quaker, of Bucks County, Pennsylvania and Union County, South Carolina. .
