William Hampton was born in 1761 in Henrico County, Virginia. He married Hannah Richardson 15 November 1788 in Greene County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Benjamin Richardson. By 1798 William and Hannah had moved to Kentucky, first to Clay and then Madison County. In 1820 the family is established in Indiana but in 1825 they moved back to Tennessee, settling in McMinn County. William died 24 February 1837. Hannah was living with her daughter Rebecca Griffith in 1863, her age given as 95 years. William and Hannah had at least seven children during the course of their marriage.
