John Hurst, son of John Hurst, was born in Virginia, ca. 1735. He married twice and was the father of eleven sons and six daughters. He served in the Revolutionary War. The family moved to Wythe County, ca. 1798. Some of the children moved to Claiborne and Sevier Counties, Tennessee, and others fo Brathitt County, Kentucky. He joined the children in Claiborne County, Tennessee, ca. 1803. He was killed by a falling tree in 1817. Some of the Tennessee Hursts moved to Putnam County, Indiana, ca. 1820.
