Robert Poage and his wife, Elizabeth Preston, had ten children, 1723- 1739. The family emigrated from Ireland in 1739 and settled near Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia. He died in 1774 in Augusta County. Descendants lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, West Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and elsewhere.
Includes the Gordon, Woods, Crawford, Hopskins, Wilson and other related families.
John Poage, of Rockbridge County, Virginia, was the younger brother of Robert Poage. He first appears in the records of Virginia, when he was appointed to cut a road in Orange County, Virginia, in 1739. He was the father of ten children, born 1738-1764. Descendants listed lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, and elsewhere.
