Johann Nicholas Kurtz was born 12 October 1720, the son of Johann Georg and Anna Katherine Bender Kurtz, in the village of Lutzellinden, near Giessen, Kries Wetzlar, Nassau-Weilburg, Germany. He immigrated Pennsylvania in 1745. He settled in Hanover as the minister. He married Ann Elizabeth Seidel at Hanover in 1747. They had twelve children. In 1748, he was moved to Tulpehoken, Berks Co., Pennsylvania, and later to York Pennsylvania. He was a He was pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Middletown, Pa. from 1778 to 1792, when he retired and went to Baltimore to live with his son, Revolumes Daniel Kurtz. He died 12 May 1794 at Baltimore. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Tennessee, Iowa, Ohio and elsewhere.

Rogers, 1752-1847, of Knoxville, Tennessee), Thompson (Revolumes John Thompson, d. 1772, of Culpeper Co., Virginia), Russell (Peter Russell, d. 1746, or Orange Co., Virginia) and other related families.
