John Bennett (b.1624) immigrated from England and received land grants about 1653/1654 on the border between Gloucester and King and Queen Counties, Virginia. He married Mary Sawyer and had at least two sons, William Bennett (b.ca.1659) and Richard Bennett (b.ca.1662). William Junior Bennett (1790-1846), a direct descendant of John in the seventh generation, moved from Prince Edward County, Virginia to Sumner County, Tennessee, and married Elizabeth Bell in 1814. They became converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, moved to Shelbyville, Illinois, and then across the plains. William died in Iowa, but his widow and the family continued the trip and settled in Provo, Utah. Descendants and relatives of John lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, Idaho and elsewhere. Includes some temple ordinance work, 1846-1971. Includes Bennett ancestry in England to about 1510.
