The Cowne family lived at the Isle of Man before 1266 A.D., and Patrick Cowne lived at Castle Rushen, Isle of Man in 1575. Descendants immigrated to England, and William Cowne immigrated from England to Caroline County, Virginia in 1733 and married widow Elizabeth (Grayson) Hill in 1743. Descendants listed lived chiefly in Virginia. Includes some noble ancestry in England.
Includes Eggleston, Lee, Reade, Smith, Sotherton, Washington and related families.
