Microfilm of typescript (carbon copy, 44 leaves) at the National Library of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Washington, D.C.

John Hamilton (1726-ca.1801), of Scottish-Irish descent, was probably born in Ireland. He and his wife, Sarah, were probably married in Pennsylvania, ca. 1757. They had six children, 1758-1775. The family migrated from Iron Hill, Pennsylvania, to Augusta County, Virginia, ca. 1762, and to Greenbrier County, Virginia, before 1776. The family was living at Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky, by 1781 and moved to Barren County, Kentucky, between 1790 and 1800. Descendants listed, chiefly descendants of his oldest son, James Hamilton (1758-1835), a Revolutionary War soldier, lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and elsewhere.
