The Rhea collection are papers from several different sources and represent different branches of the Rhea family. The sections are broken down as follows: Section 1. Papers of Mathew Rhea (1755-1816) son of the Rev. Joseph Rhea. Mathew Rhea settled in Sullivan County, Tennessee, where he served as Clerk of the Court for several years. Section 2. Copies of land grants and deeds to members of the Rhea family in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Section 3. Papers of James Rhea (1774-1845). James Rhea was a son of the Rev. Joseph Rhea. He settled with the Rhea family in Sullivan County, Tennessee, and lived in Blountville, where he served as postmaster. Section 4. Papers of Mathew Rhea V (1795-1870) of Somerville, Tennessee, relating to Revolutionary War claims of his father Maj. Mathew Rhea (1755-1816).
