Samuel Love and Dorcas Bell, daughter of James Bell, were married in Augusta County, Tennessee, in 1759, and settled near Tinkling Spring. They had six children. Samuel loved moved to family to Montgomery County (late Wythe County), Virginia, ca. 1775 and the family attempted to settle Carter's Valley, Tennessee, ca. 1776. Due to Indian trouble, Samuel Love returned to Montgomery County and lived there until his death in 1781. His son, Thomas Love (1766-1844), was born in Augusta County, Virginia. He was too young to serve in the Revolutionary War with his brothers, Robert and James. He moved to east Tennesse with his brother, Robert in 1782. He married Martha Dillard, daughter of Colonel Thomas Dillard in 1788. His brother, Robert, married her sister, Mary Ann Dillard in 1783, and his brother, James, married Winnesophia Dillard. As early as 1790, Thomas was known as General Dillard. He served in the legislature aod North Carolina and Tennessee, as did his brothers. Thomas and Martha Dillard Love had thirteen children.
