"This study traces the lineal descent from James Palmer, 1763-1845, a Revolutionary ancestor, to his son, James Quales Palmer (1810-1874); from Edward Rutledge (1725-1787), also a Revolutionary ancestor, to his granddaughter, Mary Ann Rutledge; also from James Quarles Palmer and his wife, Mary Ann (Rutledge) Palmer, to their descendants.".

James Palmer (1763-1840) married Ann Quales in 1788. They had ten children, 1788-1810, all born in King William County, Virginia.

Edward Rutledge (ca. 1725-1787) appears to have immigrated to Pennsylvania from Northern Ireland, ca. 1740 and then to have migrated to Virginia. He married Sarah Armstrong in 1750. They had seven children. He died in Augusta County, Virginia. His son, George Rutledge (1770-1825), married Mary Galbraith (1776-1845) in 1800. They had eleven children, 1801-1820. After his death in Augusta County, Virginia, his widow and children migrated to Illinois.

James Quales Palmer (1810-1874) married Mary Ann Rutledge (1813-1893) in 1833. They had ten children, 1834-1858. The family lived on a farm near Port Republic, Virginia, until 1840, when they migrated to Illinois and settled on a farm in Fulton County, near Maietta. They moved to a farm a Jacksonville, Illinois, in 1858. Descendants listed lived in Illinois and elsewhere.

Includes the Lutz, Bayless, Manley, Sandifer, and other related families.
