John Pleasant Burton (1758-1836) is a direct descendant of John Burton (1632-1689/1690) of Henrico County, Virginia. John Burton (1632-1689/1690) and Thomas Burton were both early residents of Henrico County, either immigrants themselves, or possibly sons of an earlier immigrant (and possibly brothers). John Pleasant Burton moved from Virginia to Ashe County, North Carolina, and married Susanna Stamper. In 1826 they mooved to Lawrence County, Indiana. Descendants and relatives also lived in Tennessee, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado, California, Arizona and elsewhere.

Includes Carpenter, Hatfield, Hunt, Johnston (Johnson), Maxwell, McNabb, Monroe, Sanders, Stamper, Starkey, Valentine, Toliver and related families.
