Thomas Paine is thought to have emigrated from England with his father, Thomas Paine, when he was about ten years old. He settled at Eastham, Massachusetts. He married Mary Snow (d. 1704), daughter of Nicholas and Constance Hopkins Snow. They had ten children. He died 16 August 1706 in Eastham, Massachusetts.

Robert Treat Paine, signer of the Declaration of Independence from Massachusetts, was born 12 March 1730/1, the son of Thomas (1694-1757) and Eunice Treat Paine. He married Sarah Cobb (1744- 1816), daughter of Thomas and Lydia Leonard Cobb in 1769. They had eight children. Descendants lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and elsewhere.
